(HONG KONG, 24 February 2012) — CITIC Telecom International Holdings Limited (“CITIC Telecom” or the “Group”; stock code: 1883), a leading telecoms services provider in Asia, and its subsidiary CITIC Telecom International CPC (“CITIC Telecom CPC”) are pleased to support the Communications Association of Hong Kong (CAHK) to launch the world’s first “50222 SMS Hiker Tracking Service” for the protection of hikers, together with five major Hong Kong mobile operators, including China Mobile Hong Kong, CSL (1O1O, one2free, New World Mobility), PCCW mobile, SmarTone and 3 Hong Kong. This innovative service enhancing hikers’ safety is an outstanding example of CITIC Telecom’s commitment to contribute to the community with life-changing telecommunication technology. Launched by the Communications Association of Hong Kong, “50222 SMS Hiker Tracking Service” is an easy-to-use SMS-based tool which can potentially save lives and is available to all users of Hong Kong’s country parks as a free service. Hikers can simply punch in the numbers displayed on each Distance Post along the trail and SMS to 50222. The resulting tracking information is then encrypted and stored in a secured server for three days. The Government’s emergency services would be able to direct any rescue measures more easily and more closely to the hikers’ latest known location. As a member of CAHK, CITIC Telecom has made a voluntary contribution to the “50222 SMS Hiker Tracking Service” via service development and provision of marketing communication recommendations. As the extension of Enterprise SMS service, CITIC Telecom has successfully developed a secure and independent Location Reporting System with a stringently monitored work flow procedure, thereby ensuring the server that stores all hikers’ records is highly secured.
