CTM and University of Macau signs MOU to build “Digital Macau” as pioneer in the GBA development
To accelerate the realization of “Digital Macau” vision, CTM has been committed to optimizing its network infrastructure and developing diversified smart applications, integrating information technology with Macau’s economic and social development. In this regard, it has just signed an official memorandum of understanding (MOU) with University of Macau (UM) to expand the scope of collaboration. It is hoped that through this industry-university collaboration, both parties will facilitate towards building Macau into a leading smart city in the Greater Bay Area and contribute to the moderate economic diversification of Macau.
The signing of MOU was held in the University of Macau by the CEO of CTM Mr. Vandy Poon, and the Rector of the University of Macau Prof. Song Yonghua. Other guests attended the event included the Chairman of CITIC Telecom International, Xin Yuejiang, CEO of CITIC Telecom International, Lin Zhenhui and etc. Under the framework of cooperation, both parties will jointly promote and popularize new communication technologies in Macau with their respective academic and practical advantages, and contribute to the development of information technology and diversified economy in Macau.
Xin said that CITIC Telecom would fully support CTM in the development of ‘Digital Macau’. Besides, CTM has always been committed to nurturing talents, such as the CTM Youth Development Programme which have been carried out for 5 consecutive years. Xin hopes that they could work hand in hand with UM in the future to grow more local talents.
Poon said that being one of the top universities in the Greater Bay Area, the outstanding research team and facilities of University of Macau will work with CTM for the research of new global technology trends such as big data, internet of things and smart city. It is believed that it can become a powerful support for Macau to develop into smart city. It is beneficial to people’s daily life and social areas to use information technology and data to develop smart projects that meet the needs of people’s daily life. Through the University of Macau as the company’s third-party quality of service monitoring institution, it is expected to provide a comprehensive view of the service quality of CTM, which will make the company’s professional services more convincing in the future.
According to UM Rector Yonghua Song, UM is equipped with the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City and the Centre for Data Science, and has established collaborative relationships with various higher education institutions and research institutes in the Greater Bay Area, which aims to strengthen collaboration and development in innovative research and to nurture innovative, well-rounded professionals that can lead the development of Macao into a smart city as well as the development of the Greater Bay Area. UM’s collaboration with CTM will help the university tap into its advantages. The research team will provide professional expertise and advanced technologies for the development of internet communication and information technology in Macao, in order to build Macao into a smart city and contribute to the development of the Greater Bay Area.
According to CTM, the collaboration with UM will create synergy by combining academic research with practical experiences towards building a smart city with unique local culture and through the development of an advanced network infrastructure and diversified intelligent application towards reaching the goal of promoting Macau to become the pioneer of smart city in the Greater Bay Area.
