Contingency measures in place for emergency relieve during Typhoon Mangkhut, CTM protects communication services in full force

CTM, a subsidiary of CITIC Telecom International, has always been committed to providing reliable and quality communications services to Macau citizens. In order to ensure provision of telecom service as typhoon Mangkhut skirted Macau, CTM has activated contingency measures included deploying mobile power generation equipment in various RLUs, adding water gates in RLUs located in low-lying districts, firming cell sites, hoisting capacity of backup powers, arranging technical team to standby in both Macau and Taipa office, keeping close monitoring of network performance as to ensure the  integrity of telecom equipment and stable provision of telecom services in full effort.

Typhoon Mangkhut has brought serious flooding to the low-lying areas, resulting to suspension of power supply within the district. CTM immediately activated backup power supply to support the normal operation of telecom facilities within the said district. Broadband service of some residential customers were affected as power supply was cut off at home which affected the normal operation of Internet equipment, eg. router and modem. As power supply resume at customers’ end, broadband service has returned normal. At the same time, CTM Network Management Center has detected that the telecom facilities of some customers in low-lying areas were damaged by flooding. CTM has taken initiative to contact customers, especially SMEs, to arrange technician for on-day repair.

Vandy Poon, CEO of the CTM, said that typhoon Mangkhut has brought about various degrees of damage to Macau. CTM has implemented contingency plan as soon as knowing the news of typhoon. The Company has carried out inspection and coordination of facilities, manpower and prevention measures as well as carrying out round-the-clock monitoring by Network Management Center on network performance over Macau. With the frontline team adhering to their posts throughout the typhoon period to ensure the normal operation of telecommunications services, CTM will continue to review various emergency mechanisms to provide stable and reliable communication services to Macau.
