CTM (HK) Data Center inaugurated, committed to providing secure data managed services

To further enhance the security of data backup and recovery capability, CTM, a subsidiary of CITIC Telecom International, has set up a data center in Hong Kong which is the first data center of its kind to be established beyond Macau and endorsed by CTT and the Office for Personal Data Protection. The inauguration ceremony of CTM (Hong Kong) Data Center took place on 19 Sept 2018. The new Data Center was established to provide a more comprehensive and secure managed services for different sectors in Macau. This marks the further participation of CTM in the smart cities development within the Greater Bay Area (GBA), at the same time, provides a more stable and secure data security support for the development of “Digital Macau”. According to CTM, the Company will fully cooperate with the requirements of the Office for Personal Data Protection and strictly comply with relevant laws and regulations to ensure data protection for customers.

The inauguration ceremony of CTM (HK) Data Center took place today (19 Sept) at CITIC Telecom Tower in Hong Kong.

Xin Yue Jiang, Chairman of CITIC Telecom International said in the speech that CITIC Telecom International Holdings Limited has spared no effort to support the development of CTM. Since 2013, over 3 billion Macau patacas have been invested in network and quality improvement. At present, various network indicators have ranked CTM’s network performance among the highest in the world. While grasping the development opportunities of the GBA, the Group will continue to support CTM in maintaining its leading position in the industry, actively expanding its footprint to mainland and overseas with the objectives of providing quality services to enterprises and individual customers in the GBA. The opening of CTM (HK) Data Centre marks the unique strength of the Group in the telecoms market of Hong Kong and Macau, and reflecting the mutual cooperation, close collaboration and overall development of CTM and CITIC Telecom, which will inject digital power for the enterprises in Macau and GBA under the support of Hong Kong and Macau government and setting a prototype of contributing to the regional development within GBA. CITIC Telecom International will continue to leverage its strengths in Hong Kong, the Mainland and overseas markets to provide all support for the development of CTM as an integrated Internet telecom company and to make a positive contribution to building Macau into a quality and world-class smart city.

 

Vandy Poon, CEO of CTM said that when super typhoon Hato hit Macau last year, it had caused great damage to a number of SMEs which suffered a lot of loss as they did not pay attention to the importance of data security. Therefore, CTM has provided cloud backup services for local SMEs through collaboration with business partners. This year, although super typhoon Mangkhut had also brought a certain degree of damage to Macau, the electronic data and hosting services provided by CTM Data Center had performed fully in ensuring full protection and recovery capability for the company’s operations after the typhoon.

He mentioned that typhoon Hato and Mangkhut have sounded an alarm to citizens the importance of data protection. CTM envisages to further enhance the security level to “dual cities” backup in addition to the current standard of “dual sites” back up. This project is strongly supported by CITIC Telecom International, which prompted the establishment of the first overseas data center under the endorsement of the Office for Personal Data Protection. He also expressed thankfulness to the assistance of the Office for Personal Data Protection. For Macau, it is undoubtedly a breakthrough, CTM (HK) Data Center is an extension of CTM Data Center. All construction and implementation standards synchronized with CTM data center in Macau. With direct network connected to the core network of CTM, the new data center service caters the needs of customers in all industries, including the government, large enterprises and gaming enterprises which are in strict requirements for data security, and further create synergy with the Group to accelerate the data security integration development in GBA.

CTM (HK) Data Center is located in CITIC Telecom Tower. The implementation standard is the same as the data center in Macau. They are designed in accordance with the TIA942 Level 3, and executed with  ISO/ICE 20000 (Information Service Management) and ISO/IEC 27001 (Information Security Management) standard. The center has a 24/7 security room, which is equipped with 24-hour video surveillance by staff and strict visit management. Besides, the center also implements the safe usage management mechanism for access of authorized personnel only. Meanwhile, all equipment is checked and monitored by the BMS monitoring system to ensure the security of managed equipment and data are in the most rigorous and comprehensive management mode.

Over the years, CITIC Telecom International has been supporting CTM to invest resources actively to upgrade the network infrastructure and popularize the information technology applications in order to provide local enterprises with quality operational support services.
