CTM’s contingency mechanism was recognized by the Experts from the National Ministry of Emergency Management

The Macau SAR Chief Executive Choi Sai On has invited experts from the National Ministry of Emergency Management and the National Committee for Disaster Reduction to pay a visit to Macau and review the contingency mechanism in all units belongs to civil protection system on 20 April 2018. In the morning, a delegation from the National Ministry of Emergency Management and the National Committee for Disaster Reduction, which led by the Vice Officer of the Ministry Prof. Shan ChunChang, paid a visit to CTM to have a field work on the company’s contingency mechanism and the advancement plan after typhoon Hato swept Macau last year. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Dr. Tiger Lin, CEO of CITIC Telecom International Holdings and Mr. Vandy Poon, CEO of CTM.

During the visit, CTM gave a presentation to the delegation about the details of CTM’s contingency mechanism against natural disasters, including UPS system and mobile cell site setup, onsite support management, spare network transmission and relevant equipment etc. After the damage brought by typhoon Hato, CTM took a comprehensive review and optimize various infrastructure and equipment, contingency system and staff management. It also raised awareness and strengthen drills against emergency incidents, further enhanced the stability and safety provision of network service, so as to promote the development of “Digital Macau”.

The delegation affirmed that CTM’s emergency mechanism has been arranged in detail, and expressed their respects and gratitude regarding to CTM’s effort in ensuring stable provision of telecom service when Hato struck Macau. Prof. Shan said, stable provision of telecom service is one of the key elements in disaster relief work. Along with the development of the society, the demand of network quality in building a smart city and social security is increasing. Macau, in particular, as a world tourism and leisure city, network security is necessary to be considered and formulated in multiple dimensions. He believed that CTM could keep coping with the Macau Government’s direction, shouldering up the responsibility of securing communication safety, to invest and reinforce the ability in prevention and reduction of disaster through the development of information technology.

Dr. Lin expressed his thankfulness to the delegation’s visit and practical guidance. He said, under the great support of CITIC Group, CITIC Telecom International directs CTM to uphold the awareness of the overall situation, responsibility, quality and service excellence, shouldering up the responsibility of building Digital Macau, striving to become the first-class around the world of promoting digitalization, and enhancing advanced network and service quality that serve Macau. In terms of enhancing the sense of preventing and the ability against natural disasters, CITIC Telecom International will reinforce below 3 aspects: 1. Increase investment, ensuring CTM is capable to resist and in control of major disasters, so as to protect social security and public benefits; 2. Strive to build first-class management and technical team, ensuring there is a strong, responsible and professional team during key moments; 3. Keep introducing more new technologies, enhancing the technical force against disaster relief.

Poon said that the delegation gave CTM practical suggestions on the contingency plan and system management, the company will cooperate with the Macau Government in full effort for the preparation of the 10 years disaster preventing plan. With the great vision of “Digital Macau” in mind, CTM will stay ahead of network technology to support civil protection system and the development of various sectors in Macau. In the coming future, CTM will strive for establishing greater room for industry growth, and to introduce more innovative technologies and service carrying cloud development in all sectors, so as to build Macau as a leading smart city within the region.
