CTM takes the lead to launch 5.5G service
Building Macau as a “10Giga” smart city to accelerate digital transformation
(22 July 2024, Hong Kong/Macau) In order to push forward the development of “Digital Macau 3.0”, CTM has been consistently investing to build a leading digital foundation for Macau, and joining hands with various stakeholders to create more smart application scenarios for different sectors and residents. Today, (July 22), CTM is pleased to announce the launch of the first-in-Macau 5.5G service, marking Macau officially enters into the 5.5G era and becomes one of the Global pioneers in commercialize 5.5G service.
Ebel Cham, Vice President, Commercial, CTM said that, since the launch of 5G service in 2022, it has gained positive response from the general public, so far over 86% of users have upgraded to 5G network which reflects the high level of acceptance from general public in the pursuance of new telecom technology and high quality services. With the objective to fulfil different segments’ needs of up-to-date telecom services, CTM has been pacing up the world’s cutting-edge technologies, and being one of the first Global 5.5G pioneer to bringing innovative telecom services into Macau.
Cham stated that it just took around 1 year for CTM to upgrade to 5.5G service, which is a solid proof of the company’s dedication and commitment to develop Macau into a smart city. Riding on the 5.5G applications and the advanced smart city foundation, CTM envisages to collaborate with various stakeholder to introduce more diversified intelligent applications to the city, especially the industrial digitalization solutions, and explore further innovative service, such as the promotion of low-altitude economy by 5.5G technology.
Hudson Lou, Director, Network Service and Development, CTM stated that 5.5G, which also named as 5G-A (5G-Advanced), is the enhanced version of 5G technology, driving the download and upload speed by 10 times comparing to those of 5G. There is also obvious uplift in both network speed and throughput capacity, realizing millisecond-level ultra-low latency and 100 billion IoT applications connections, enabling the exploration on new field and needs. CTM will also concentrate on RedCap IoT applications supported by 5.5G, and the pioneering establishment of “Smart Network Integrated Leased Circuits” that will strengthen the adaptation and effectiveness of intelligent scenarios.
Aiming to fulfill the diversified customer needs towards 5.5G network service, CTM will introduce different 5.5G service plans cater for the need of different customers.
