CTM and Tencent Sign a “Digital Macau” Memorandum of Agreement

Companhia de Telecomunicações de Macau S.A.R.L. (CTM, a subsidiary of CITIC Telecom International) and Tencent Holdings Limited have signed a memorandum of agreement (MoU) to make Tencent’s cloud technology available to users in Macau, and strengthen the collaboration of both parties in the fields of cloud computing, big data, Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI). The collaboration aims to promote the infrastructure development of “Digital Macau” as well as explore and strengthen the cooperation between the two companies.

CTM and Tencent signed the MoU on 18th December 2018. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Vandy Poon, Chief Executive Officer of CTM, and Poshu Yeung, Vice President of Tencent International Business Group (IBG); officiated by Ebel Cham, Vice President, Commercial of CTM and Norman Tam, General Manager of Tencent IBG.

According to the MoU, CTM is Tencent’s preferred partner and its exclusive telecommunications partner in Macau. Harnessing the strengths and resources of the respective businesses and resources of both CTM and Tencent, the first phase of cooperation will cover the following three areas:

  1. Targeting corporate clients – With Tencent Cloud, corporate clients of all business sizes in Macau can enjoy secure, reliable and high-performance cloud services.
  2. Shaping Macau into Digitalization – With the capability of Tencent Cloud-based services, together with big data and AI technologies, Macau will be empowered to take a leap in digital application.
  3. Providing targeted marketing and advertising solutions – With Tencent’s advertising businesses, including JOOX, the biggest leading free music streaming platform in Asia as well as social media platforms such as WeChat and its ecosystem, corporate customers in Macau will be able to conduct marketing and advertising promotions, targeting consumers in Macau, Hong Kong and tourists in mainland China.
