The Group organized Digital Macau Forum with subsidiary CTM. Proven Network quality is a solid foundation for Macau to develop into a Smart City.

To draw on the collective wisdom that fosters the development of a smart city, CITIC Telecom International and its subsidiary CTM organized a Digital Macau Forum today (17 October 2017) at the University of Macau.  

 

Guests presided at the ceremony included the Vice Chairman of CPPCC National Committee, Mr. Ho Hau Wah, the Chairman of Macau Legislative Assembly, Mr. Ho Iat Seng, Secretary for Transport and Public Works of MSAR Mr. Raimundo Arrais do Rosário,  the Officer of Economy of Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government of Macau S.A.R., Mr. Liu Bin, the Director of CTT, Ms. Derby Lau, the Rector of University of Macau, Mr. Zhao Wei, the Chairman of Board of CAM, Mr. Ma Iao Hang, the Director of Association for Promotion of Science and Technology of Macau, Mr. Chui Sai Peng, member of Executive Committee of FDCT, Mr. Cheang Kun Wai, the Director of Smart City Alliance Association of Macau, Mr. Wong Seng Fat, the Chairman of CITIC Telecom International, Mr. Xin Yue Jiang, CEO of CITIC Telecom International Dr. Lin Zhenhui and CEO of CTM, Mr. Vandy Poon.

Guest speakers included Ms. Ao Chi Ieong, Officer of Worker’s Medical Clinic, Mr. Manel Machado, Director of Academy Technology of Saint Paul’s School, Mr. Lu Guang, Intelligent City Expert of HuaWei Technologies Company, and Mr. Jerry Wang from Intelligent Transportation Society of Taiwan, over 200 guests participated in the Forum including Legco members, government officials, associations leaders, representatives from banks, school principals, and students from various university and secondary schools etc.  In addition, the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Macau, released a study report of local network quality, revealed that the overall performance of local network is more engaging than the neighboring regions of Zhuhai and Hong Kong in terms of network coverage, speed and stability.  

 

Chairman, Xin Yue Jiang said in his speech that:

Throughout 36 years of serving Macau, CTM has transformed from merely providing fixed telephone service into today, a comprehensive communication service provider that supports the development of a smart city. Since CITIC Telecom International has become the major shareholder of CTM in 2013, the CITIC Group has highly valued CITIC Telecom International and CTM to actively demonstrate the corporate social responsibility, upholding the objective of investing, contributing and serving the Macau society, striving to introduce cutting-edge technologies and intelligent applications into Macau. In the past 4 years, the shareholder has invested over 2 billion into Macau for constructing advanced network infrastructure, while actively introducing various reduction measures to cope with the Macau Government’s telecom policies and the development of “Digital Macau”.

And Mr. Xin emphasized that CITIC Telecom International will continue to fully support CTM to strengthen network infrastructure, introduce advance technology and enhance service quality as to achieve the early realization of “Digital Macau.  He envisaged that the Forum will serve as a platform for various sectors to exchange views and draw on collective wisdom that help establish the directions of developing “Digital Macau” which is people-oriented and will cater the actual needs of the community, and will further solidify Macau’s “One Center One Platform” position.

 

Then Dr. Lin Zhenhui, CEO of CITIC Telecom International, delivered a keynote speech with the topic Catching up the trend: Promote Macau as a smartest city in Asia.  Dr. Lin analyzed:

The development of the information society from the Digital Age to the Smart Age as Internet is moving from the connection between People to People to further solving the connection between “People and Things” & “Things and Things”.  This revolution will start from the smart city.  As Internet Service Provider, telecom operators are essential for the development of the Internet.  It is similar with the public utilities like water, electricity but with different technologies and business models. The Group’s subsidiary, CTM has already built the telecommunications infrastructure and willing to be an operator of Smart City.   Dr. Lin proposed to join hands with the community to catch up the opportunities and promote Macau as one of the smartest city in Asia.

Mr. Vandy Poon delivered a speech with the subject “Growing alongside with the Macau community, together marching towards a new era”. He said in his speech that:

For the past 36 years since establishment, accumulated with rich operating experience and strong support from the major shareholder, CTM is determined to promote the development pace of “Digital Macau”, and also be the best collaborating partner of the Government, enterprises and educational institutes in promoting the development of Digital Macau. In this respect, Poon welcome various stakeholders in Macau to join the composition and development of “Digital Macau”, joining hands together to construct an ecosystem that caters local demands, gradually building up Macau as a region-leading and even a world-leading intelligent city.
