CITIC Telecom Earns Recognition at the“I.T. Brand Awards 2012”
(HONG KONG, 29 August 2012) — CITIC Telecom International Holdings Limited (“CITIC Telecom” or the “Group;” stock code: 1883), a leading telecoms services provider in Asia, is pleased to announce that it has won the honour of “The Best New Telecommunications Applications” within the category of telecommunications presented by The Chamber 1of Hong Kong Computer Industry and Metroinfo FM99.7 at the “IT Brand Awards 2012” with its communication application “HIPPI.” It has also garnered the “The Best Cloud Computing Solution” prize under the category of commercial solutions within the same awards with its innovative SmartCLOUD cloud computing solutions, offered by Group’s subsidiary company CITIC Telecom International CPC Limited. These two honours acknowledge CITIC Telecom’s achievements in product brand building and innovative contributions to the telecommunications industry.
To keep ahead of the latest market developments and create value for consumers, CITIC Telecom has exerted considerable efforts to develop new products and services. The award-winning communication application “HIPPI” is the latest result of the Group’s efforts. It is a Voice over Internet Protocol (“VoIP”) user service for smartphones that can run on Apple’s IOS system and the Google Android system. Different from similar applications in the market, HIPPI is built on a globally managed IP network with flexible local accesses including Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G. It supports the most comprehensive voice services such as callback, call forwarding and voice messaging as well as added functions such as instant messaging, and two-way SMS to bring the best quality of service to its users. It will also support HD voice in near future.
At the same time, the Group is actively advancing the cloud computing business. Forrester predicts that the global market for cloud computing will grow from US$40.7 billion in 2011 to more than US$241 billion in 2020. And there are also projections that cloud-based applications will become one of the key areas of enterprise IT spending in the future. To tap the enormous market potential, the Group’s subsidiary CITIC Telecom CPC launched its flagship solution, the SmartCLOUD cloud computing suite. The cloud computing services offered in SmartCLOUD have been well received by enterprise customers as they bolster efficiency and productivity while providing a high level of security. The latest additions to this innovative series include “SmartCLOUD BRR,” a back-up, replication and recovery service, and “SmartCLOUD VC,” a regional video conferencing management solution.
Mr. Sutton Cheung, CTO of CITIC Telecom, said, “Both awards represent key recognition by the industry for our efforts in developing high quality value-added telecommunication products and introducing cloud computing services to Hong Kong and regional businesses. Through closer collaboration with customers, telecom operators and other business partners, CITIC Telecom is committed to offer superior services while expanding market outreach, thus seizing growth opportunities for further success.”
In its second year, the I.T. Brand Award recognises the best and most valuable brands in their respective category that contribute to the advance of the telecommunications industry. The awarded companies were selected in a poll including consumers, the media, academic representatives and IT professionals.
