CITIC Telecom Subsidiary CTM Receives World Internet Conference Distinguished Contribution Award

(27 November 2024, Hong Kong) — At the opening ceremony of the 2024 World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit held on 20 November 2024, the inaugural “World Internet Conference Distinguished Contribution Award” was presented to recognise individuals and enterprises that have made significant contributions to global Internet-related fields. CITIC Telecom’s subsidiary, CTM, was awarded this accolade for its “persistence in promoting the inclusive development in communications technology and building a sustainable future with an emphasis on human-centric technologies by nurturing communications talent and caring for vulnerable groups”. CTM is the only awarded enterprise from Hong Kong and Macau regions and one of only two telecom operators to receive this honour.

In recent years, CITIC Telecom and CTM have consistently kept “National Priorities” in mind, actively practicing CITIC Group’s philosophy of “Rooted in Macau, Investing in Macau, and Serving Macau”. They have fully committed to the construction of the “Digital Macau” smart city, proactively deploying investment plans and rapidly launching 5G services, which have achieved full optical coverage for internet access and comprehensively enhanced the capabilities and standards of the communications infrastructure in Macau. The progress has enabled Macau to ranked among the top three globally in terms of internet speed for several consecutive years, effectively promoting the diversified development of its society and economy.

This year, CTM officially launched 5.5G commercial services and introduced RedCap lightweight IoT capabilities, making Macau one of the first cities in the world to offer 5.5G services. The Company is committed to applying 50G PON and WiFi7 technologies to lead Macau towards becoming a “10-Gigabit city”.

Mr. Vandy POON, Chief Executive Officer of CTM, stated that receiving this award serves as encouragement, motivation and a catalyst for CTM. CTM firmly supports the principle of the “One Country, Two Systems” policy and will continuously strive for excellence in every aspect of its work. It will fully embrace its role as “Macau’s communication gatekeeper” and make even greater contributions to the development of information and technology in Macau.

At this year’s Wuzhen Summit, the “5G Empowers Macau University of Science and Technology for Innovative Applications of Planetary Magnetic Field Research” – the first “5G+ research” project jointly developed by CTM and Macau University of Science and Technology – was included in “the Collection of Practice Cases of Jointly Building a Community in Cyberspace with a Shared Future” and presented to the world by the World Internet Conference.

Looking to the future, CITIC Telecom and CTM will thoroughly implement the national strategies for the high-quality development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the “Belt and Road” initiative. By adhering to its technological leadership, they will continuously enhance the core functions and competitiveness, advance corporate “Transformation and Development, Reform and Innovation”, and contribute CITIC’s efforts to comprehensively advance the construction of a strong country and the rejuvenation of the nation through Chinese-style modernisation.
